Talayot village of Trepucó

This is the best preserved Talayot village of Menorca, with a surface area of 5000m2, and was evacuated in 1931 by Margaret Murray Located around 2km from Port Mahon, in the direction of Sant Lluis. At this site the best-preserved tools were found, today on display in the Museum of Menorca.

It is believed to have been built in the 4th century A.D. It is a rectangular construction comprised of two rows of six rectangular pillars which separate the three naves. One of the most spectacular aspects of the building is a baptistery. Discovered in 1951.

Sant Nicolau Castle

It was built in the port of Ciutadella in the 17th century to defend the city. In the year 1756 the French disembarked and crossed the entire island to attack San Felipe Castle, so the port had to be defended at all cost.

This is a Catalonian gothic style temple and was built between the 13th and 14th century by the order of Alfonso III of Aragon after conquering the island from the moors in 1287. The cathedral received the title of minor basilica in1953, granted by Pope Pius XII.

This military complex is located at the entrance of the port of Mahon. Queen Elizabeth the Second of Spain ordered the fortress built midway through the 19th with three objectives in mind: defend the port, to be the base of operations for the island’s entire army and a security stronghold.

This is a megalithic chamber tomb that was used between 1200 and 750 B.C. and held remains of individuals and their personal effects. It is considered the oldest completely preserved building in Europe.

Torre d'en Galmés
Torre d'en Galmés

This town is one of the largest in Menorca. Its location at the top of a hill on the Southern coast of the island makes it particularly suited to control the territory. It endured from the pre-talayot period (prior to 1400 B.C) to the Roman empire.

The caixers (horsemen) ride amongst the crows showing off their skills will making the horses jump to the beat of the typical songs heard in these festivities, particularly a very well-known jota in the region that is played by a local band.
